Whitepages Inc.

Interaction Designer, 2011-2017

I worked for over 5 years at Whitepages, Inc. as an interaction designer. We were a small team that varied between 2 and 5 designers supporting multiple products at a company with a headcount that varied between 100 and 140. Everyone on the design team was responsible for the full stack of design tasks on their own projects, including UI, UX, branding, user testing.

Close working relationships with engineers

Design and engineering worked hand in hand, sometimes late into the night, to make the best experiences possible.

Being more than a ‘cog in a machine’

Whitepages was a small company with less than 150 employees. Each of us was able to make a huge impact.

Strong sense of camaraderie

I got to know my coworkers well and we knew we had each others’ backs.

Individual empowerment to improve design company-wide

We were able to spearhead design improvements we were passionate about, from user testing processes to responsive design.

Learning to work in an agile environment

Whitepages is where I learned to work with small teams of designers, developers, and product managers to rapidly iterate on projects.

What do Whitepages coworkers have to say about me?

Calum is a wonderful talent to work with, both dedicated and smart. During our shared time on Whitepages’ design team, we collaborated on many projects across Whitepages.com, internal and external branding efforts, and Whitepages Pro. His passion for good design is underscored by his concern for users and informed by keen analytical insight. He has a real gift for UX, which he demonstrated time and again by diving into massive user research undertakings and coming back with crucial observations.

Whenever I was overwhelmed with what was on my plate, I could always count on Calum to have my back. I always found him to be a dependable resource for honest critiques, unique solutions, and witty monologues. Highly recommend as designer and a team-player.
